Facts & Honest Caveats

What's verified, and what isn't. Cross-checked by multiple research passes; uncertainties are flagged, not hidden.

Who makes Pikmin Bloom?
Developed by Niantic (Pokémon GO, Ingress) under license from Nintendo. Launched Nov 2021. Now operated by Scopely after the 2025 acquisition.
What's the core gameplay?
Walk -> grow seedlings into Pikmin -> feed nectar to bloom flowers -> collect petals -> plant flowers -> expeditions / co-op mushroom battles / Big Flowers -> collect postcards. It connects to Apple Health / Google Fit.
Why do postcards 'block the landmark'?
The postcard overlays your Pikmin onto a real location photo. The FEWER Pikmin you send, the BIGGER they appear — so sending just one produces a giant 'big-head' shot that covers the view. Players chase these rare shots on purpose.
Is the 'blocking Mt. Fuji' story real?
Honest answer: the MECHANISM (Pikmin blocking landmarks) is real and documented, but a specific viral 'blocked Mt. Fuji' case couldn't be verified. The verified viral mainline is Taiwan's 'ugly postcards / electrical-box landmarks' (e.g. @sososolarr's 'ugliest contest' post, and a Liberty Times feature on 'why so many electrical boxes').
Does revenue really grow every year?
Yes (per AppMagic estimates): $8.4M (2022) -> $20.9M -> $33.4M -> $34.8M (2025), crossing $100M cumulative by Dec 2025. It's the only Niantic game growing every year — unusual, since most mobile games peak at launch.
Are players mostly older / female / non-gamers?
Honest answer: there is NO credible quantitative age/gender breakdown for Pikmin Bloom. Design intent and media framing support 'casual / non-gamer' strongly; 'older / female' is plausible but unproven. Treat any specific percentages floating around as unsourced.
Why did it suddenly blow up in Taiwan?
A convergence: the official zh Threads opened (Jan 2026, ~18k day-1), the 'ugliest postcard' UGC, the 'Qing-dynasty Pikmin' meme, idol exposure, a 311k-member FB group, city/FamilyMart tie-ins — and a low-pressure, cute product that fit post-pandemic wellness needs.
Was Pikmin Bloom sold for US$3.5B?
No. US$3.5B was the price for Niantic's WHOLE games division (Pokémon GO + Monster Hunter Now + Pikmin Bloom), sold to Scopely in 2025. Pikmin Bloom was one asset within that deal, not valued at $3.5B alone.
